Local SEO Case Study: 944 Page-One Keywords in 90 Days

In 90 days, a local service business went from 2,426 to 4,083 keywords on Google and earned 28% more clicks after GetLocalLeads.AI built it 47 location pages. This local SEO case study shows how it happened, with every number taken from Google Search Console. The pages went live in mid-July, and the comparison sets the 90 days since against the 90 days before.

The short version: give every town a page, and Google has something to show in every town.

590 to 944 keywords on page one.

A business that only showed up close to home

The client is a local service business that serves customers across dozens of towns.

Its customers search the way most people do. They type the service they need and the name of their own town. If a business has no page about that town, Google has very little to show them.

That was the gap. Before the build, 44 pages on the site earned any visibility on Google, and most of the towns the business served had no page of their own. The company was doing the work in those towns. Its website just wasn't saying so.

The goal was simple: be found by customers in every town it serves, and measure the change in Google Search Console instead of guessing.

What we built: location pages for every town

We built a new website with a dedicated page for every town the business serves. That meant 47 location pages, delivered as part of the website build and live in mid-July. Each one gives a customer searching in that town a page that names their town and the service they came for.

Google found them fast. By the third week of July, Google was already showing 40 of the 47 pages in search results. All 47 were appearing by early September.

We published answer-first articles. An answer-first article puts the answer to the reader's question in its opening lines, then explains the details. Thirty-two are live and 10 more are scheduled, each one built around a question customers actually search before they pick a provider.

We rewrote the search snippets to earn the click. The snippet is the short description that appears under a result on Google. Every location page got one written to give a searcher a clear reason to choose this business.

1,657 more searches found the site

The biggest change was reach. The number of keywords the site showed up for grew from 2,426 to 4,083, an increase of 68.3%.

A keyword, in this case study, is any search Google showed the site for, as Google Search Console records it. Search Console also counts impressions, which Google defines as how many times your site appeared in search results. Impressions rose from 55,390 to 78,234, up 41.2%. Impressions come first, because a customer cannot click on a business Google never shows them.

The site itself got bigger in Google's eyes, too. Pages earning impressions went from 44 to 147.

The new location pages did a large share of that work. Pages that did not exist 90 days earlier earned 10,366 impressions on their own. That is the core lesson of location pages SEO: a page has to exist before it can be found.

Every town with a page became a town the business could be found in.

From page two to page one

More searches would mean little if the site sat on page four. It didn't.

Keywords averaging a page-one position grew from 590 to 944, up 60.0%. Keywords averaging a top-three position grew from 178 to 310, up 74.2%. Those are the spots where most people actually click. Most people choose from the first page of results, so moving a search from page two to page one decides whether a customer sees the business at all.

Two of the most important searches for the business, the service plus its main city, moved from page two to page one. One went from an average position of 16.3 to 9.6. The other went from 13.3 to 8.7. Google defines average position as the average position of the topmost result from your site, so lower is better.

The new articles are ranking too. Two of the guides already average positions of 3.9 and 6.8.

944 keywords now land on page one.

More searches turned into more clicks

Clicks are the number that matters most here. Google counts a click as the number of times a user clicked your site from Google Search results, which makes it a customer choosing to look at the business. Clicks to the site rose from 278 to 357, up 28.4%. Clicks from phones rose from 243 to 308, up 26.7%, which matters for a local business because so many customers search on the go.

The timing lines up with the build. Average clicks per day rose from 3.0 before the location pages went live to 4.2 after, an increase of 39%.

The new pages carried their weight. The location pages earned 70 clicks from a starting point of zero. The articles and guides grew from 29 clicks to 85, and the number of article pages earning visibility on Google grew from 7 to 28.

Why local landing pages worked here

Coverage comes before rank. You cannot climb for a town you have no page for, because Google has nothing of yours to rank there.

Local landing pages fix that by giving each town its own page, which is why we build them first for any business that serves more than one town. We cover the approach in more detail in our guide to service area pages.

The articles did a different job. They answered the questions customers type before they choose someone, so the business showed up earlier in the search, while customers were still deciding.

These results come from that whole system working together over the same 90 days: the location pages, the articles and the snippets.

Frequently asked questions

How long does SEO take to work for location pages?

In this case, Google was showing 40 of the 47 new pages by the third week of July, and the 90-day comparison shows the gains that followed. How long SEO takes to work depends on your market and your competition, so treat this as one example rather than a promise.

What is a location page?

A location page is a page on your website for one town you serve. It gives a customer searching for your service in that town a page of yours to find.

What counts as a keyword in this local SEO case study?

Any search Google showed the site for, as recorded in Google Search Console. The site appeared for 2,426 of them before the build and 4,083 after.

Does this work for my business?

It fits businesses that serve customers in more than one town, and the same thinking drives multi-location local SEO. Results vary with your market and your competitors, so we look at your situation before recommending anything.

How much does a location pages build cost?

It depends on how many towns you serve and what your site already has. We scope it on a call, after looking at where you show up today.

Which towns are you missing?

Most businesses that serve several towns have a few where customers search, find nothing from them, and call a competitor instead. The fix starts with knowing which towns those are.

On a call, we look at where your business shows up on Google today and where it doesn't, then tell you what we would build first. You leave knowing which towns have no page, which searches you already show up for, and where the fastest gains are.
